無事を確認！ Mail from New Orleans

I am driving in Houston now, and heading to
Los Angeles.
New Orleans is not the same as before.
The city is under water and my place too.
Thousands people died and the bodies floating
on the water everywhere in the city.
We are very depressed what happening
in New Orleans.
The city won't let people get back into
New Orleans at least few weeks or a month,
so I decided to go to Los Angeles.
Lost homes and lost jobs,
people feel hopeless now.

まゆみさんからメールが来た！神様、ありがとうございます！

こちらのメールが届いていたのかかどうかはわからないが、とにかく無事だということがわかって、ほっとして涙が出た。中身を読んで、また泣けてきた。家も仕事も失った人は、まゆみさんだけではない。多くの人が、いまだに死と隣りあわせだ。まゆみさんが無事でよかったと思うと同時に、そういう人たちのことを考えると、胸が痛い。これが泣かずにいられようか。

命が無事だったまゆみさんも、これで安心できるわけではない。淡々と書かれているメールだけど、大変な痛みが伝わってくる。今まで築いたものを何もかも失って、途方に暮れているに違いない。しかし、生きていればこそだから、何とか立ち直る手助けをしたい。

神様、これからもどうかまゆみさんをお守りください。
